Fans Unite to Defend Kim Soo Hyun
In a powerful show of support, Kim Soo Hyun’s fan communities have taken legal action against individuals responsible for spreading false and defamatory information about the actor online. This move highlights the rising concern over cyberbullying and online defamation in the entertainment industry.

On April 22, 2025, the Kim Soo Hyun Fan Union—comprised of groups like Daum Cafe Eucharis and DC Inside’s Kim Soo Hyun Gallery—announced they are filing an official complaint at Seoul Seongbuk Police Station. Their legal representative, Attorney Yang Tae Young from Law Firm Siwoo, confirmed the charges fall under Korea’s Information and Communications Network Act.
Background of the Controversy
Allegations Involving Kim Sae-ron
The defamation rumors are based on talk that Kim Soo Hyun was romantically involved with actress Kim Sae-ron starting in 2015, when she was reportedly underage. These stories came from Kim Sae-ron’s family and a controversial YouTube channel, which even posted a letter and a photo as so-called proof.
Kim Soo Hyun’s agency, Gold Medalist, shot down these claims, explaining that the two only started dating after Kim Sae-ron turned 18—from summer 2019 to fall 2020. The actor himself spoke about it publicly on March 31, 2025, saying:
"I did not have a relationship with her while she was a minor."
Gold Medalist Responds with Legal Action
Fighting Misinformation Online
Kim Soo Hyun’s agency has taken a strong stand to protect the actor’s name. On April 15, Gold Medalist filed a legal complaint against individuals and channels involved in spreading rumors. The agency is charging them with defamation and insult under the Criminal Act.
Also, there's a 12 billion KRW (about USD 8.7 million ) lawsuit against Kim Sae-ron’s family and the people running the YouTube channel that spread the rumors.

The Role of Fans in Combatting Defamation
The Kim Soo Hyun Fan Union has collected evidence such as manipulated images, edited videos, and derogatory comments to support their case. They issued a clear statement:
“We will not tolerate personal attacks disguised as freedom of expression. No leniency will be shown.”
This kicks off a new chapter in fandom culture— where fans are backing their idols not just with their hearts, but also by standing up for them legally and socially against false stories.
Conclusion
The actions of both Kim Soo Hyun’s agency and his loyal fanbase reflect a growing intolerance for online harassment and character assassination. These legal steps are setting a precedent in the K-pop and K-drama industries for how public figures can be protected from the destructive power of misinformation.
